This is all about road accidents. Trying to build a way to prevent as much as possible.
Below are some alarming stats,
·   Nearly 1.3 million people(13 Lakh) die in road crashes each year, on average 3,287 deaths a day globally. (8.7 times of India’s)
·       An additional 20-50 million are injured or disabled.
·   One death every 4 minutes due to road accidents in India.
·   1214 road crashes every day and 377 people die every day in India.
·   2 wheelers account to 25% of accidents. 4 and above accounts to 75%.
Major causes of accidents
1. Distracted Driving – Use of mobiles (increasing), eating, talking with others – 16%
2. Over Speed – 30%
3. Drunk & Drive – 31.07%
4. Drowsy driving – 83,000/year
5. Weather -22%
6. Red light crossings
Leaving the natural causes, I am targeting the top 4 causes for accidents with my idea of “YET TO NAME”.
Idea is to have a sensor device which can perform the below:
1. Warns when looking away for a longer time or distracted
2. Warns on Over speed on the basis of current location/road. Some roads have a max limit etc.
3. Warns when drunk or prevents from igniting to not let drive
4. Warns when drowsy or getting sleepy.
With these we are trying to prevent nearly 78% of the accidents.
Goals
We are trying to address,
1.     Drunk & Drive
2.     Driver attention – mobile use, drowsiness
3.     Speed
Drunk & Drive
·   Need a sensor which can detect if a driver is drunk from a may be within a feet distance Or Device a way.
·   People may not use if they need blow air keeping in the mouth.
Driver Attention
·   For detecting driver’s attention and drowsiness, I would prefer to perform image processing on driver’s eyes & face.
·   For ex, warn when missing view for more than 2-3 secs either because of talking to other person or drowsiness.
·   Give a continuous alarm when picks a mobile etc.
Over Speed
·   Based on the GPS location, get the allowed speed limit and calculate the current speed of the car/vehicle and warn when reaches the limit.
Also, my idea is to keep this device like a tesla device where firmware updates can be pushed
Having said these, what is minimum viable product
Either of below,
1. Drunk & drive detection
2. Over speed detection with in vehicle
3. Driver attention, detect face and eye view of driver and warn if sleeping or not having for a considerable amount of time, going to right/left (chances of hitting the road separator)

Drunk & Drive implementations:

·   Breathalyzer – general one, used by police. 2500/-
·   Breethometer – app based detection. Less accurate.
·   For alcohol detection, we can use the technology of fitbit/band. Paste it on to the steering and constantly get driver pulse etc to understand. See if dadss algo can be used here.
Over Speed Implementations:
App can be built with GPS + Accelerometer for detecting motion and speed.
Ex: Speedometer app in iPhone.
Driver attention implementation:
To not to get biased, first I am writing my idea of implementation and then will research.
1. Cam can work in android when phone is locked. It can record videos. Ex: “Background Video Recorder” app. Yet to check in iPhone.
2. Get the camera stream, analyze it for change in attention. Apply image processing principles in detecting driver’s eyes and their position.
3. Give a holder for placing the mobile and app will detect the position i.e. whether the camera is able to detect face or not. This way we can avoid cost for an expensive camera.
4. Will charge the phone when in holder, so that It won’t drain user’s battery and helps them with charge.
In iPhone, it’s not allowed. There is no way to record a phone when it is locked.
May be with iOS 11, with introduction of face ID, need to see if any provision is there to detect face but I guess it will also restricted to capture for authentication only. May not serve the above purpose.
Need to look at alternatives of having a cam (action cam kind of as quality is very much important) + some processor device for the calculations.
Additionally,
1. The device can be used for dropping a message when met with an accident.

    Any cost effective smart solution among these might work. It should pass hell out of certifications though. An app on smartphone cannot be accepted. Rather, with android auto booming one can think to make use of it to make the app launch smooth. But that cannot be formalized.
