OTT Theatre - App idea

With over priced multiplexes & emergence of OTT Apps, viewers are loosing the theatrical experience. Missing the experience of viewing for 2-3 hrs with a break. On the other hands due to short run of producers are loosing money. OTTs aren't even making much money as they have to buy many movies. Users are getting benefit of watching movie anytime at their comfort but as watching with pause/forward/rewind pauses people aren't really getting/feeling the joy of watching. 

The joy of watching only comes with theatrical experience. But, due to economic issues movies don't have long runs, theaters/multiplexes were also  not able to run shows due to less viewership/foot fall. If this continues the film art would go into a deeper risk leading to poor content & experience.

My idea is an in-between solution to fill the gap & give theatrical experience from comfort of home.

The key here is the pricing.

Once movie is ready/reached OTT release date, instead of in OTT (as its now), give it to release called OTT theater release. 

In OTT theater release,

  • Have to buy ticket like watching in theater.
  • No pause/forward/rewind option(like theater).
  • Price will cheaper.
  • Ex, first time watch : mobile ticket: 30, Laptop ticket: 60, TV ticket: 80
  • For 2nd watch -  price would slashed by say 30-50%, 
  • For 3rd watch - may 20% of original 
  • then, it would be added to the users library & can watch anytime, any no.of times.
  • Will have a wallet for ease of purchases.

if around 22.5 L mobile viewers, 75k laptop viewers, 75k TV viewers watches a movie, estimated earning would be 6.6 Cr.

OTT Theater app can charge 20-40% for their pocket (based on cost) & by running multiple movies they too can earn better.

OTT platforms in a rat race & sustenance in longer would be hard. content from film producers is in risk due to non-profitable runs. To have better content coming, to not have OTT monopoly, offer varied content, to let movie & theatrical experience not to die, this is one good move i feel.

Not all movies need to OTT theater releases, those who want them to be released in this way can release. Both OTT & OTT Theaters can co-exist as well. But the time to OTT release should be replaced by this OTT theater for benefit of all. This way varied experiences will be available for users. idea is not to kill any but offer missing things.


Note: pricing mentioned above is just a rough idea, amount etc to be adjusted as per the calculations & expectation. this would be a great idea if adopted by existing OTT apps as well.

To take this idea right into your mind, i should explain a little background of my current situation & situations of people that i know & around me.
