itsmyhomeshare - crowd sourcing for home information

To take this idea right into your mind, i should explain a little background of my current situation & situations of people that i know & around me.

To start with, i have recently got job in Hyderabad. so, moving from Bangalore to Hyderabad. I have 30 days of time to find a house and set up my things there.

I have gone to Hyderabad over the weekend to look for a house near the IT areas to be in a close proximity to office. Me and my wife roamed for entire 2 days around 16 hours but couldn't find a 2 BHK house in that area. Only 1 or 2 are there which are in a pretty poor condition. rest all are 3 BHK's which are heavy priced.

But, if i search online getting so many agent/brokers numbers are there. when i contacted them, they are saying they have good houses at cheaper prices in good locality itself. but they take commission/brokerage for showing it. I am really not interested in paying that much amount for a his little work/info sharing.

Weekend completed, couldn't get a house. back to Bangalore. As i am vacating, a friend of mine approached me asking if he can take my current home. I invited him to see the house, he liked it. Another friend also approached but it was already taken. what they both are saying is "they are trying to find a house here  but its becoming very hard to find one". Its is pretty painful to find a house for rent. Finally, first friend was pretty happy because he was trying but couldn't find from sometime. My friend who searched for a home in Hyderabad earlier also had a bitter experience and he said it will take a minimum of 2-3 weeks to find one.

Coming back to my searching, my wife asked her friends for information on any rented houses in their premises. few contacts we got but doesn't match my needs/preferences. She has in mind & told me many a times that, we should do/ideate something to solve this problem.

Today (26 Sep 19) one of her friend called and informed that near their home there is a PAN shop. that PAN shop person knows houses vacant near by. he can help you. so, go to him and ask when reach there.

This triggered me this idea of crowd sourcing for rented homes information. So, here is the idea:

  • If anybody finds a To-let board(meaning about a house for rent) in their locality, they can post in our platform.
  • They need not be owner. anybody can post.
  • When someone is posting we will get the location details and user can also add & post some more details like type, locality, facing, owner number what ever he/she has.
  • Anybody searching for a home, can see those details and reach there/call and proceed.
  • For posting we will give points.
  • Once if a person finalizes home via our platform post, we will add more points to the one posted and some points to the one has taken it.
  • Up to certain(say 20) posts one can see for free
  • Beyond that, they have to earn points to see. the way to earn is post/share. (additional ways can be thought of, asking one to pay money is an existing business, i am not interested)
  • So, if i post now, later when i need a home, i can use these points to see more posts/numbers etc.
  • Also, we will give merchandise to people for the posts/points. (can think of money in future)
  • To de-list posts from agents/brokers, spam, we give points to the ones reported. so, more chances of reducing spam posts.(some x no.of complaints by users will taken for delisting or moving to the last).
  • In sometime, this will/can act as a good source of information.
  • As information is good, visits will be more. Hence can get ads.
  • Here we don't charge any visitor.
  • Income is through Ads & Analytics.
  • People will show interest in using it because its free & good source, leading to a good traffic => good ads => good revenue to run it.

This model can be used in multitude

Just when thinking little deeper, feeling that Google, Stackoverflow, Wikipedia (to an extent) are running on similar model.

One more thing i am realizing now, what ever houses i saw in first two days are also because of my friends mom. she saw those boards and told us. what ever calls we spoke were from friends. so, already around 80% info we got via our circle. so, just think how it could be if the circle is bigger.

PS: I faced this difficulty several times earlier... first time in Madurai (Roamed on a super hot sunny day without knowing language), second time in Bangalore (for finding a PG then a house), third time in Chennai (for my brother's house), fourth time for my self in Hyderabad. I know how painful it is.
